Asclepias speciosa

This is the most common Milkweed in the Pacific Northwest. Plants grow to 3-4 feet mostly on a single stem. I have not seen a Monarch Butterfly on these plants in my garden but they attract native Butterflies and pollinators. And who knows- If Monarchs were to come by someday I'd love to have Milkweed growing in the garden to welcome them.

The seeds are a bit finicky to germinate but not impossible. Plant in the fall in pots and leave outdoors to naturally stratify. Or cold stratify them in the refridgerator for 30 days in a moist paper towel or in moist sand. Then put them in pot and cover lightly with soil to germinate. May take up to 3 weeks. Give them a chance to get large in the pot before transplanting. Perennial.
